This handsome boy was recently surrendered to us as his owner could no longer care for him. He is a vey sweet boy with high energy. He is 1.5 years old, DOB: Jan 9/2020. He is certainly a mix breed, Beagle – Border Collie/Lab Mix. He has those big, cute beagle ears!!! Rufus is neutered and currently up to date on vaccines, deworming and flea treatment.
Rufus was seen at the vet and is on medication for an ear infection. He should be all fixed up in two weeks. He does not enjoy vet visits as a lot of dogs are in the same boat. While Rufus was at the vet, he weighed in at 80lbs and should be maybe 60lbs! He will need to lose some weight which should not be too hard seeing he is only young and full of energy.
Rufus is currently like a giant puppy that needs some basic training. He likes to jump up and he is a bit playfully mouthy. He needs to learn some manners for sure! He is kennel trained which is a plus as he can be a bit destructive when left alone. Someone with some dog experience should not have any issues with training him. Rufus is fully house trained and has not had any accidents since here at the shelter.
Rufus enjoys getting a bath as it is like a big giant all over body scratch. He likes to turn over and get belly rubs and he just enjoys the company of people. He loves to play with toys and likes to tear up stuffy toys. Squeaky tennis balls seem to be his favourite! Rufus enjoys going for walks and swimming which is great to help get him into better shape.
We think he would be best to go into a home with no young children, school aged would be best. He has never lived with cats or dogs before. We would consider another dog if there was an introduction first. He did encounter a cat that got loose at the shelter and barked loudly at it.
